Nice writing, Orrin. But your world is certainly different than mine. I don't know how old you are. I'm 72 and still incapable of lying on a beach for more than a few minutes. I want to comment that sinking gracefully into senescence is not for everyone.

Aging is something most people can push back on. It's a matter of use it or lose it. Yeah, it's work, but it can feel so damn good. I love working out daily, traveling, and engaging in adventure sports. And my favourite sport is still rock climbing. I have friends in their eighties who are still active rock climbers.

A life of adventure has left me with some chronic injures that require daily maintenance and workarounds. But it's all worth it. I feel blessed.

Part of aging is probably dependent on culture and environment. I think I would wither and die pretty fast if I didn't live in the mountains. I'm lucky. But then again, I chose to live here. No sunny Florida beaches for me, although my wife and I do like hiking and climbing in the American South West deserts. Or Spain, Greece, Slovenia, Croatia.

Like you, I do enjoy my morning coffee and oatmeal. They are fuel for the day ahead's challenges.
